• Roots
The plant has a yellow-colored taproot system that extends deep into the soil.
• Stem
The stem is greenish-white, thorny, and contains sap. When broken, it exudes a yellow milky latex. Because of this golden-colored latex, the plant is known as Suvarnakshiri ("golden milk-bearing").

The leaves are green with prominent white veins and thorny margins. They are relatively large and clasp the stem closely.
• Flowers
The plant bears attractive yellow flowers with five to six petals. The flowers bloom singly and may appear throughout the year.
